For a bartender to win an International Cocktail Competition is more than just a win, it is about making a historical mark in the world.

Giving inspiration to fellow bartenders, working hard and never falling back. Such an inspiration for the bar world currently is Himanshu Desai. A Mumbai-based mixologist Himanshu Desai is the first participant to represent India at the Rémy Martin Bartending Talent Academy (BTA) & also the second prize winner in the competition held in Cognac and Paris, for his cocktail, called For The Good Times.

He describes his time at the Remy Martin Bartender Talent Academy as purely experiential full of incredible moments and surprises.

His win has made India proud and fellow bartenders a chance to look beyond, aiming for higher.

 

 

Himanshu describes his time at the Remy Bartender Academy as a dream journey for any bartender alive on the planet.

The competition was divided into three parts – Blind Tasting of the cocktail, Story Telling and Technique & Presentation. It demanded the contestants to create a cocktail inspired from their childhood hobby and a story justify it with their cocktail.

Himanshu’s cocktail was inspired from his favourite hobby “Photography” and he named the cocktail “For The Good Times”. His cocktail was dedicated to all the bartenders who flew to Cognac from around the globe and were having a good time with Rémy Martin, hence the name. He went for a very interesting presentation for his cocktail – a vintage brass chalice and a miniature sword on the top it. Sticking to the theme of the finals, he conceptualised his creation to be that of a travel journal. He shot pictures of the people, good moments and even judges on the spot with his Polaroid camera, connecting it with his childhood hobby.

Ingredients

50 ml Remy Martin VSOP

15 ml Aperol sous vide with pandan leaf

20 ml fresh Apricot puree

20 ml fresh Lemon juice

4 drops homemade sandalwood tincture

 

Method 

 

Shake & serve

Garnish with dried apricot
